A lack of money and debt can easily cause stress to the mind and body. When you do not have enough money and/or have debt, it is a heavy emotional burden that you carry every day. This emotional burden taxes the body and adds to poor health. Changing your experience with money to having enough and more, paying off debts, and having more hope supports the mind and body in maintaining good health.
Understanding the nature of money in our time and how easily you can change your experience with money over time will help you not only have better financial health, but overall better physical health.
Money is a system of energy. It is a neutral energy that operates according to the beliefs
and perceptions we have each placed on it. Since we no longer hold a Gold standard to determine how much money can be circulated, we have released money to be an infinite resource. We call money “Currency.” It truly has become a current that is flowing to us or away from us.
Air is also energy, yet most people do not believe in a lack of air. When you breathe in air, do you panic because you fear that there may not be enough, so you’d better count your breaths to make sure you don’t run out?
Do you scold your children for taking in too many breaths and using too much air?
Do you worry that you might run out of air at the end of the day, or week, or month?
The amount of money you have is directly related to your beliefs about money. A lot of people believe there is not enough money, and their lives reflect that belief.
Every time you spend money, what feelings do you have? Do you feel good, or feel worried?
What thoughts run through your head?
Are you putting your happiness on hold until you have more money?
Do you worry you shouldn’t be spending your money because you are thinking how much you do not have?
Money obeys us with the script we have given it.
If you are running a lot of negative thoughts about money through your mind, it is time to write a new script. If you could tell money how you want to experience it, what would tell it? Write it down. Start with these two:
1. Say the following affirmation, “Thanks, money, for changing your experience with me. I am ready for more.”
2. The Universe does not know your bank account status; it only reads the signals you are feeding it. So create a vibration of wealth by playing the following game:
Pretend you have an unlimited supply of $100 dollar bills in your wallet. Every time you spend a $100 dollar bill, imagine another one magically replacing it. Throughout your day, think of the many things you could spend that $100 dollars on. Act as if you are spending it over and over and over. Rejoice and have fun with all the things you could buy, all the people you could share it with, and all the experiences you could create. As you do this you will send out a vibration of wealth and prosperity that will assist you in creating more wealth.
As you shift into a vibration of prosperity consciousness, you will create and attract new avenues and opportunities for more money to come into your life. Money is a resource that God has given us to bless our lives–not to interfere with our daily happiness. If you are creating your experience with money as a negative distraction, choose to clean it up.
As you change your beliefs about money, it will change its experience with you.

Emotional Healing Expert : Master Energy Therapist, Carol Tuttle
Carol Tuttle is a mom, grandmother, business woman, wife, energy therapist, author, and more. She currently resides in Draper, Utah area. The purpose of this interview was to get to know how this energy practitioner was introduced into mind body healing techniques, in particular Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT for short.

#1.Carol, what is your philosophy for helping people?
Carol Tuttle :
“Teach them tools that help them discover their truth and how to live in a state of more joy, abundance and happiness.”
#2.How did you first hear about EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique?
Carol Tuttle :
“I learned about EFT in it’s early origins. A colleague of mine told me about Gary Craig and his work, I looked it up, went to a training taught by Gary, met him personally and started writing articles for his website.”
#3.In a couple of sentences how would you describe EFT tapping technique to someone who has never heard of it before?
Carol Tuttle :
“EFT is a simple self-applied procedure that offers relief and healing when a person is feeling emotional discomfort and stress either physically, emotionally, and mentally. It is composed of a sequence of tapping on emotional acupressure points that comprise our mind-body energy system called meridians that the imbalanced energy is running through. The tapping helps release the imbalanced energy allowing it to return to a state of balance.”
#4.How long have you been using EFT tapping professionally?
Carol Tuttle :
“Over a decade.”

“A client of mine had been diagnosed for several years with chronic fatigue. She had spent thousands of dollars and seen the top specialists in the world to find a cure. After using EFT and other methods I taught her, her body was restored to a state of wellness within 4 months.”
#7. Do you use EFT tapping technique on yourself? How has it benefited you personally?
Carol Tuttle :
“Yes, it helps me maintain wellness and balance physically, emotionally, and mentally.”
#8. Does EFT tapping work for everybody? When have you seen it not work?
Carol Tuttle :
“At times, when a person has a deep seated belief that nothing helps them, and they might never get well, that can cause EFT to be ineffective unless they are tapping on that block and limiting belief.”
#9. Carol, you incorporate various energy healing techniques (including EFT tapping) in the Energy Healing 101 Kit. What was the purpose of this DVD?
Carol Tuttle :

Dr. Bradley Nelson, D.C. chatting with attendees five minutes before presentation. San Rafael, Ca. – 28 Miles North of San Francisco
Ahhh, it is so refreshing to be with people who are open minded, taking charge of their health, and seeking alternative forms of healing. I felt I was among kindred spirits. There were even some eager listeners who were genuinely interested and curious about my experience with the Emotion Code technique.
The seminar attendees were an eclectic group of lay people (some of whom were in real physical pain I may add), chiropractors, and various other holistic practitioners. We had people who came from as far away as Texas, Pennsylvania, and Mexico City, Mexico. A surprise guest, Bill Henderson, the author of “Cancer-Free: Your Guide to Gentle, Non-toxic Healing (Third Edition)” attended the seminar too. If I had known this earlier I would have tracked him down, talked with him, and taken his picture.
Anyway, Dr. Bradley Nelson was informative, entertaining, and inspiring. His presentation covered most of the material in the Emotion Code book and some material not in the book. Fortunately, this two day event was not all lecture. Attendees had plenty of opportunities to learn and practice several forms of muscle testing, and, of course, practice releasing some trapped emotions for yourself and others. This event was also a great place to get any nagging questions answered about the Emotion Code and the actual releasing process. Although, I didn’t have any questions.
You may be wondering why, then, did I bother going? Well, I have been experimenting with the Emotion Code technique for about 6 months and felt pretty confident about it. I just went to soak up all the info at a deeper level where only a live seminar could provide. For intance, during the seminar, I was reminded of the importance of some neglected and skipped steps when releasing trapped emotions or undergoing any healing process for that matter. First, connect with your higher source. And, second, be in the state of love and gratitude while doing healing work. It sounds like a no brainer but it was not natural for me.
There was also a third step which had a deeper impact for me. I was habitually neglectful about “acknowledging” my emotions. I was so focused on expunging my pain as quickly as possible that I devised crafty short cuts. For example, I would try to get rid of heart-walls without delving into the details of the emotions. I did this because I had long list of issues to clear and I was trying to expedite the process. Ultimately, this behavior was a disservice to myself and my past.

Since the seminar, I have been more mindful and respectful of my trapped emotions. I release them with compassion and patience. I also had an epiphany that I must share with you as well. I was lying in bed one day thinking about all that had happened during the Emotion Code seminar the weekend before. Then, out of the blue, I realized that the “hidden” heart-wall is just another way of describing unconscious resistance. Now, I really understood its role, the implications, and the importance of identifying the “hidden” heart-wall and removing it. Its sole purpose is to protect you at all cost. And resistance – whether rational or not, or well meaning or not – will hamper your conscious intentions every time.
My overall experience at the Emotion Code seminar was positive, however, I wish there were a couple of hours dedicated to individual healing during the seminar. I am sure each person at the event could have worked on some physical or emotional problem. Luckily for me, a fellow attendee spent a couple of hours clearing my trapped emotions for my “self-sabotage” issue after the first day of the seminar. I really appreciated the selfless act of kindness.
Anyway, towards the end of the seminar, Dr. Brad played this video and I cried. I was debating whether to show you this video because some of you may think this is way too weird. But I decided some of you may need to hear it. The video is a touching and incredible story of a woman who was beaten to death by her ex-husband and returned to this earth after leaving her body. Just watch the video below, it is more than a sob story about someone recovering from abuse. Anne Horne came back for a reason.

Now, I would like to leave you with a TIP on how to clear multiple trapped emotions in one setting. This topic was not covered in the “The Emotion Code” book or mentioned during the seminar. However, an attendee and I were utilizing this trick throughout the seminar. Okay, after you have identified and listed all of your trapped emotions on paper, use muscle testing to ask your subject’s subconscious mind whether you can bundle and clear all of the trapped emotions in one session with the magnet? If “Yes”, ask how many swipes are required. And, then, proceed to swipe or “roll” (depending on what kind of magnetic implement you have) down your subject’s spine with your magnet. If the answer was “No”, your are out of luck and have to clear the trapped emotions individually.

During the webinar, Dr. Nelson explains how energy effects our bodies, the concept of a heart-wall, and how the Emotion Code and Body Code System healing techniques can bring relief from just about any ailment imaginable. Now, you may be wondering how is Dr. Nelson demoing these healing techniques over the phone? Well, he is employing something called distance healing. You may have heard of it under different names such as proxy healing, remote healing, surrogate healing, or quantum healing. Distance healing is basically the process of sending healing energy with intention over a distance to someone, much like sending radio signals. Whether or not the other person accepts the signal is another matter. And conscientious holistic practitioners will employ distance healing only if they have permission to do so from the intended party.
Yes, I know, it is strange. It sounds woo-woo. But distance healing is actually quite common place in many healing modalities such as rieki ,EFT tapping, qigong, and spiritual therapy. If you think about it, prayer is a form of distance healing. For instance, if you are praying for someone’s health in another part of town. Isn’t that distance healing or at least asking for one?
Honestly, this knowledge and technology is not for everyone whether you are a doctor or lay person. Take away what you like and throw away the rest. Enjoy the webinar.
Here is a TIP for those of you who have purchased “The Emotion Code” book and have been removing your trapped emotions on your own. This enhancement boosted my healing process. The idea came to me while listening to this webinar. In addition to asking whether I had a “heart-wall” and/or any trapped emotions for an issue, I also asked the following list of questions. For example, 1) Do I have a gut cord? With whom? 2) Do I have a meridian imbalance? 3) Do I have a psychic trauma? 4) Do I have a memory of a past event stuck in front of my face? And so on. Use muscle testing to determine how many times to swipe your magnet for each item. Then, swiped over the governing meridian with your magnet. Swipe with the intention of removing each particular block. In other words, verbalized what you want to release before and while you run the magnet from your upper lip to the tailbone. I have been implementing this procedure for a couple of months now, and I honestly feel this has helped reduce my general anxiety.

#1.Dr. Nelson, what is your philosophy for helping people?
Dr. Bradley Nelson:
“First of all, I believe that the human body has all the answers contained within it. While we use 10% of our intelligence consciously, 90% of our intelligence is subconscious. But it is the subconscious mind that contains all the answers about what is wrong with us. Everything you’ve ever eaten, everything you’ve ever tasted, touched, smelled; the whole history of your health or disease, is all locked away in the amazing holographic archiving computer of the subconscious mind. We can access the information that is in the subconscious mind through muscle testing; the Body Code System is simply the most efficient and effective way to access this information in a very highly organized manner, so that no time is wasted.”
#2.How would you describe the Body Code Healing System to someone who has never heard of it before?
Dr. Bradley Nelson:
“The heart of the Body Code System is a revolutionary mind map consisting of 118 hyperlinked pages. This provides a revolutionary way to access all the information that is in the subconscious mind, determining very rapidly what corrections need to be made, including energetic imbalances such as trapped emotions, structural imbalances, nutritional imbalances, deficiencies and balances of the acupuncture meridian system, and balances of the chakras, toxicity, etc. Essentially, all the imbalances that we know of that can actually occur to the body are covered by this mind mapping system. There is really nothing else like it in the world that we know of.”
#3.What kind of issues or ailments did this healing system help your patients with?
Dr. Bradley Nelson:
“During the last 10 years of my practice using the Body Code System, I specialized in working with the most difficult patients. Most of these people had been to the Mayo Clinic, or Scripps clinic or some other major medical center only to be told that there was no cure for them, that their condition was hopeless. The vast majority of these people were able to get well and often in remarkably short periods of time. The reason for this is simply that The Body Code system does not address symptoms, but rather it addresses the actual underlying causes of the disease process.”
#4.What is the most profound shift you have ever witnessed using the Body Code System with your patients?
Dr. Bradley Nelson:
“I think one of the most profound feelings that I have witnessed can be seen from the unsolicited testimonial that I’ve attached, which I received a number of years ago from one of my patients when I was still in practice in Laguna Niguel, California.”
#5.Do you use the Body Code System on yourself? How has it benefited you personally?
Dr. Bradley Nelson:
“Absolutely. I would not be where I am today without the Body Code System. Beyond the physical help that I’ve received from the Body Code System, it has helped me to remove all of the financial blocks that were in the way of me finding total abundance in my life.”
#6. Does the Body Code System work for everybody? When have you seen it not work?
Dr. Bradley Nelson:
“I don’t think that anything works 100% of the time for 100% of the people. Some people are just unwilling to get well. Some people have a deep need to stay sick, sometimes for the sympathy that they get from other people, and so on. But I do believe that the Body Code System is the most effective method that is available in alternative energy medicine right now.”
#7.What do your family, friends, and colleagues think about the Body Code Healing System?
Dr. Bradley Nelson:
“The response has literally been overwhelming, with interest from both physicians and laypeople of all types from all over the world!”
#8. What do you say to people who reject the Body Code System as a legitimate self-care and healing method?
Dr. Bradley Nelson:
“I don’t seem to attract people who are interested in rejecting this type of work. The world is absolutely right for change in this area right now and I am so busy connecting with people all over the world who are so excited about this that I simply don’t have time or energy for people who are stuck in 20th-century medicine, and who are not open to better ways of doing things.”
#9. Dr. Nelson, what is your favorite aspect about the Body Code System home study course?
Dr. Bradley Nelson:
“I don’t think I ever would’ve released The Body Code system information to the public if I were left to my own devices. I think I felt that this information was too complex perhaps, or too powerful to release, except to healthcare practitioners. However about 18 months ago I had a dream, and I was specifically told in that dream that I need to put all this information into a homestudy package that absolutely anyone could have. It took me a year of very hard work to get all this information into what we now know as The Body Code System. It’s all in there.”
#10.Last question,Dr. Nelson. What is the single most important tip you can give on how to obtain the best results with the Body Code Healing System home study course?

“Prayer. Love the person that you’re working on, and have a heart full of gratitude that what you’re doing is working, and I guarantee you you will see miracles happen!”

I was introduced to Dr. Nelson’s work through his book – “The Emotion Code” . I was intrigued about removing my “heart-wall”. I was also curious how this healing technique would compare to Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) for releasing negative emotions. My primary focus was to tackle emotional healing for chronic depression and anxiety.
I have been using the method described in The Emotion Code book for a couple of months now, and it works quite well! It didn’t dissolve my depression yet but I made some head way with my anxiety. It is just a different approach but very precise. In the beginning, I combined EFT tapping with The Emotion Code method as an experiment. I basically substituted the magnet with EFT tapping as a vehicle to remove the negative emotions. But eventually I switched to a magnet.
Honestly, the results from using the The Emotion Code book really inspires me to attend an Emotion Code Seminar this year and purchase the Body Code System home study course. I can’t wait!

#1.Brad, what is your philosophy for helping people?
Brad Yates:
“I believe that there is greatness within everyone – and we are all worthy and deserving of abundance. I feel my job is to help folks release what gets in the way. The great artist Michelangelo stated that his statues were already there in perfect form – hidden inside the marble – and that his job was to simply chip away the pieces that didn’t belong. I feel the same way – we are tapping away what doesn’t belong.”
#2.How did you hear about Emotional Freedom Technique?
Brad Yates:
“I was introduced to it by a fellow hypnotherapist, who got me on an e-mail list of other hypnotherapists. There was a discussion of an Energy Psychology Conference that was about to take place, and I signed up for that, and the full-day training with EFT founder Gary Craig that took place the day before the conference.”
#3.How would you describe EFT tapping technique to newbies?
Brad Yates:
“I like the stand-by phrase, “It’s like emotional acupuncture, but without the needles.” Based on thousands of years of Chinese medicine, this technique helps balance the body’s natural energy system by stimulating key points on the face and torso. We feel emotions in our body, so it only makes sense that we use a physical approach to help relieve uncomfortable feelings.”
#4.How long have you been using EFT tapping professionally?
Brad Yates:
“I started introducing EFT into my hypnotherapy practice in 2000. Within a year, it was the main tool I was using.”
#5. What kind of issues do you like to help people most with EFT?
Brad Yates:
“I love helping people discover how wonderful they are – dispelling the old lie that they “aren’t good enough.” And while I’ve worked with many different issues, I believe this one is underneath most if not all other issues.”
#6. What is the most profound shift you’ve ever witnessed using EFT tapping technique with clients?
Brad Yates:
“I’ve witnessed so many profound shifts… it’s hard to say. Some that stick with me are the woman who was able to let go of the traumatic feelings from a 20 year old episode of molestation in a matter of minutes, and the woman who was able to laugh at how her husband served her divorce papers (on her birthday!). Sometimes the shift in the session doesn’t appear profound, but I will receive an e-mail later where a client shares something that has happened which evidences that something big has shifted. Sometimes it is in the form of financial gain, or career opportunity, or even a healthier way of handling a situation that used to be troubling.”
#7. Do you use EFT tapping technique on yourself? How has it benefited you personally?
Brad Yates:
“I work by phone, and am always tapping when working with a client, so I naturally benefit from the process. I also tap on my own, and on occasion work with a colleague. My life is very different – I’m much more proactive, I’m physically healthier, and have a much brighter outlook than I did before I started. For a specific example: I recently finished the children’s book I wrote over two years ago. I felt a lot of resistance to actually illustrating the book. I did a session with a friend, and cleared whatever was blocking me – the next week, I sat down and did over 40 drawings – more than twice what I had been fearing I’d have to do.”
#8. Does EFT tapping work for everybody?
Brad Yates:
“We all have the same meridian system in our bodies, so tapping is beneficial to everyone. However, depending on a person’s unconscious blocks to the results they consciously want, it might take a lot of persistence before seeing the benefits. And I completely understand that some folks will find it hard to persevere with an admittedly silly looking process when they aren’t getting tangible results. Sometimes it helps if someone tries another healing modality, then later comes back to try EFT again.”
#9. Brad, you have a product called Money Beyond Belief with Joe Vitale from the movie – “The Secret” . Can you tell us how you met Joe Vitale and why you decided to work together?
Brad Yates:
“It’s actually a great story of the Law of Attraction. Years ago, I had heard about Joe’s book Spiritual Marketing (later renamed The Attractor Factor), and had written to him about it. We had exchanged a couple of e-mails over the next few years. I then had a notion that I’d like to work with Joe on some project. I attracted a new client who happened to work for the company that marketed Joe’s coaching program at that time. I offered, through this client, to do a free teleseminar for that group. Joe wrote to thank me, and I responded, “Well, I’m doing it for two reasons…1) I love doing what I do, and 2) I’m really trying to get your attention.” He then asked if I’d like to be a guest on his “Attracting a New Car” teleseminar series – and actually had me on twice in the four calls. I later suggested we could take what we did there – adding the clearing step to the manifestation process – and do a whole teleseminar around that. He said, “Great – and I even have a name for it: “Money Beyond Belief !” It was a month or so later that he was asked to be in ‘The Secret.’ ”
#10. And finally, Brad. What is the single most valuable tip you can share on how to use EFT tapping technique effectively for emotional healing?
Brad Yates:
“The best way to get the most out of tapping is to start with what you are feeling in the moment. Even if you don’t know the words to say, allow yourself to be aware of whatever you are experiencing, whether it is a thought, and emotion or a physical sensation. If you still aren’t sure what to tap on, here’s where I like to go: Say to yourself, “I love myself,” and rate how true that feels on a scale of 0 – 10. TO whatever extent it isn’t a 10, ask yourself why not, and tap on those reasons. Tapping is like peeling the layers of an onion – just get started, and you’ll uncover what is underneath it all… experiencing greater levels of joy and freedom along the way. And you deserve that.”

This is an email interview I did with Lindsay Kenny, EFT Master, who is based out of the San Francisco Bay Area, Ca. The purpose of this interview was to get to know a bit more about the person behind the energy healing work. The response to my interview questions are unedited. Enjoy the interview and I hope it inspires you.

#1.Lindsay, what is your philosophy for helping people?
Lindsay Kenny:
“I’ve always been interested in helping others…even when I was a little girl. Maybe it was because I needed help myself. I just know that nothing makes me feel better than knowing I’ve helped someone else have peace of mind, increased confidence or joy in life. To me, that’s what it’s all about.”
#2.How did you hear about Emotional Freedom Technique?
Lindsay Kenny:
“I simply looked in the phone book for a therapist who could help me with severe depression. The book opened up to the exact page I needed, and my eyes fell on a therapist who listed the things I was going through. It turned out that I was probably her very first client in EFT. She was a marriage and family counselor who had just learned the basics of tapping the weekend before. She struggled through the process with me, and we both thought it was weird. I didn’t even know what it was called or what had just happened. I just knew I felt 100% better when I left and that my life had dramatically changed.”
#3.How would you describe EFT tapping technique to newbies?
Lindsay Kenny:
“Tapping is simply helping the body let go of negative emotions by stimulating the energy system, where emotions are trapped. The vibration from tapping on energy points creates a vibration within the energy pathways (meridian) that allows a negative emotion to quickly dissipate. If I had three sentences I would go on to say it’s a little magical, and it really works.”
#4.How long have you been using EFT tapping professionally?
Lindsay Kenny:
“10 years.”
#5. What kind of issues do you like to help people most with EFT?
Lindsay Kenny:
“I’ve worked on virtually every imaginable issue and negative emotion. However, what comes up most often is also what I like the most, and that’s “being stuck” issues, relationships, self-esteem issues, fears and beliefs, prosperity and abundance and personal performance. I also invest a lot of time in working with aspiring practitioners and trainers. I simply want people to be their best.”
#6. What is the most profound shift you’ve ever witnessed using the EFT tapping technique with clients?
Lindsay Kenny:
“This is a tough one, because I’ve witnessed so many extraordinary shifts. However one lady came to me a few years ago with a mess of seemingly insurmountable problems. She had lost her job, her fiancé, her health, energy, her sense of self-worth and even her will to live…all within a month or two.”
“She had so many health and emotional issues that it took two pages to list them. Yet with tapping, and in less accumulative time invested than it would take to do your taxes, she was back on her feet. Within two months she had establish a great new career, had regained her health, had a new love interest and was solidly confident, energetic and happy. It almost seemed like magic, as I mentioned above. All she had going for her in the beginning was a tiny willingness to overcome her obstacles. She came to me a shattered, dejected woman, and soon was and is living the life of her dreams. It was a huge turn around for her and a blessing for me to help her with it.”
#7. Do you use EFT tapping technique on yourself? How has it benefited you personally?
Lindsay Kenny:
“Heavens yes! Tapping makes life so much easier. I had a pretty good life already, but I wasn’t feeling very good about myself. After tapping away the negativity of my childhood and other issues, I created an ideal life and feel great about who I’ve become.”
“Tapping helps to instantly neutralize bumps that could grow into mountains if allowed to fester. One of the biggest advantages of tapping is having this extraordinary tool available, literally at my fingertips, to tap away problems as they arise.”
#8. Does EFT tapping work for everybody?
Lindsay Kenny:
“No, I don’t think it works for everyone across the board. It can work on babies, the elderly, animals and even those in a coma. The success rate is so high (up to 98% when it’s used by a competent practitioner) that it seems like it works for everyone. However, it really doesn’t. Still, just about anyone in any business or industry, including the medical field, would love to have a 98% success rate.”
“When doesn’t it work? Tapping often doesn’t work if someone is heavily medicated, drunk, or otherwise mentally compromised. Also, tapping isn’t likely going to help someone if they consciously don’t want to change or let go. I’ve had clients who came to me saying they wanted to quit smoking or drinking, but later admitted that they only came in to get someone else off of their back. They didn’t really want to quit, so their results were minimal. It does work, however, even if someone doesn’t believe it will.”
#9. Lindsay, you have quite a collection of downloadable tele-classes and articles on your website. Which one is your favorite for emotional healing and why?
Lindsay Kenny:
“Again, this is a difficult choice because I have such a broad spectrum of products covering just about every issue. However, the audio that seems to have helped more people and is the most popular is my “Bundling Baggage” teleclass. This process, which I developed about 6 years ago, helps someone neutralize all of the negativity from any segment of their life…usually in a matter of minutes.”
“Letting go of childhood pain, beliefs, fears and negative emotions seems to be the best use of this technique. The formative years, before the age of 7 are where most of our problems originate. The Bundling Baggage technique can help eliminate any group of repetitive, similar negative events. It’s yet another example of the magic of tapping.”
#10. And finally, Lindsay. What is the single most valuable tip you can share on how to use EFT tapping technique effectively for inner healing?
Lindsay Kenny:
“Finally, an easy question to answer. I think the most valuable thing to know about tapping, by far, is that it will work so much better if you neutralize any subconscious resistance to change before you start the tapping process. All of us have a little inner voice saying “But I don’t WANT to!” which we call a Reversal. That voice, our subconscious, is far more powerful than our conscious will or determination. So a simple procedure to quiet that resistance, or Reversal, will go a long way toward helping the tapping process work more efficiently and effectively, and it’s so easy to do. Somehow I’ve developed the moniker as “an authority on why EFT doesn’t work”. I don’t mind that, except that I believe that EFT tapping works 99% of the time…if done correctly. Yet many will try it once, throw up their hands and say “Well, it just didn’t work for me!” If that happens, it is rarely, if ever, any shortcoming of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).
It’s my experience that one of the primary reasons EFT appears not to be working resides in the skill of the practitioner (who is often the person treating him or herself).
EFT tapping technique is more of an art than a science, and we’re still learning how it works. We do know, however, these things for sure:
In the right hands EFT tapping can produce miraculous results.
Simple issues such as fears, stress, (recent) anger, pain, frustration and hundreds of other non-complex problems can often be eradicated in a few minutes with Emotional Freedom Technique.
multifaceted issues, such as trauma, chronic anxiety, abuse, serious illnesses, and depression may take longer and more skill than can be delivered by an EFT tapping novice.
Even someone new to EFT tapping technique can often get amazing results 70% of the time–that’s an extraordinary percentage that the medical profession would love to have.
EFT tapping often works when everything else has failed.
In skilled hands EFT tapping technique can work over 95% of the time.
And here’s the most important thing we’ve learned:
There are certain things that can stop EFT tapping in its tracks…which is the basis of this article.
Becoming aware of these stumbling blocks and knowing how to deal with each one will increase EFT’s effectiveness significantly, even for a beginner. Not being specific, not finding or resolving the core issue, not being sufficiently hydrated, and missing shifting aspects are just some of the reasons someone applying EFT tapping technique might not resolve an issue. We’ll deal with each of these obstacles and others later on in this article. But let’s start with a big one first…
1) Reversals
Reversals, often called Psychological Reversals or Polarity Reversals (PR), are what I believe to be the most overlooked obstruction to successful EFT (tapping) treatments. There is so much more to this phenomenon than we originally thought. When it appears that EFT is not working, a primary key to rapid and effective treatment often lies in identifying the different types of Reversals and in knowing how to neutralize them.
Dealing with Reversals up front is perhaps more important than any of the other impediments to EFT tapping technique. In fact, if Reversals are unrecognized and untreated they can stop EFT in its tracks, or at best make it dramatically more difficult and time consuming to resolve an issue. The good news is, once discovered, the solutions for correcting Reversals are amazingly simple and highly effective. My experience is that with most people dealing with simple issues, Reversals are not a problem. But for chronic or long-lasting problems, complex issues, and even serious illnesses, Reversals are all too common.
For those who have a Reversal, its discovery and elimination are paramount to a successful resolution of their problem. A good clue as to whether or not someone has a Reversal is if their 0-10 intensity level remains the same after a couple of rounds of tapping. There are other reasons why your intensity level may stay the same–other stumbling blocks–which we’ll address later on in this article. I break Reversals down into two basic types, each with several sub-categories.
A) General Polarity Reversals
The first type of Reversal is what I consider a General Polarity Reversal, or GPR. GPR can be caused from several factors:
Negativity – chronic negative thoughts, negative behavior, or negative events
Being around electrical devices for long periods of time
Addictions – addictive personalities or addictive substances in the body
Depression – chronic depression causing the body’s energy system to become slow or sluggish.
Performing the standard set-up procedure (rubbing the sore spot or karate chop point while saying the set-up statement) will often fix negativity or electrical GPRs. Addictions- or depression- caused GPRs, however, are not usually eliminated just by doing the set-up statement and require additional work as detailed in the next section on SBS.
General Polarity Reversal simply means that the electricity or energy in the body is “agitated”, or “going in the wrong direction”. Therefore the polarity is reversed. Think of the experiment in grade school where you used a magnet to attract tiny particles of metal on a piece of paper. The positive end of the magnet pulled the particles toward it, aligning them up neatly, all going in the same direction. Then, when the negative end of the magnet was directed toward the metal shavings, it caused the particles to repel from the magnet, scattering and separating them in all different directions. In a sense, that’s what happens to our body’s energy when a negative force, like those listed above, is introduced into the system.
Another way to look at our body’s energy field or polarity is to compare it to batteries in a tape recorder, flashlight, or other battery-operated devices. The batteries that run the gadget must be installed with the positive and negative polarity seated in the correct direction. If not, the device simply won’t work. Since your body has its own “electrical system” your “batteries” need to be positioned correctly for you to function properly. If your polarity is all scrambled up, you have a GPR Reversal and it’s likely EFT tapping will not work for you until the Reversal is corrected (which we’ll cover in a moment).
B) Secondary Benefit Syndrome or SBS
This is the second and more common type of Reversal. The SBS reversal occurs when the subconscious mind perceives that it is better or safer to keep an issue (like negative emotions, chronic pain, extra weight, or a bad habit), than to eliminate it. Or, as the movie “What the *#@!# Do We Know?” demonstrates, our bodies can actually becomeaddicted to a negative emotion or issue.
After a period of time we may become so accustomed to being angry, hurt, anxious, victimized, etc. that our body is reluctant to let the emotion go. The negative condition may be uncomfortable, but if we have been in that state for awhile, it begins to feel “natural” to the body and the subconscious mind.
Since SBS is seldom a conscious choice, most people will initially disagree with you if you tell them that subconsciously they don’t actually want to get rid of their problem or issue. Of course most people don’t consciously want to stay emotionally upset or physically in pain. But the subconscious is a powerful entity, usually exhibiting dominance over our conscious desires.
For someone who has carried around a trauma, chronic pain, phobia or other issue for many years the emotion becomes a part of his or her personality or even his or her identity. How often have you heard phrases like “He’s an angry young man” or “She’s just such an anxious person”? Overcoming or losing that “identity” can be very threatening to the non-rational subconscious mind.
For instance, the subconscious might be thinking…”If I get over this issue…”
“…I won’t have an excuse anymore for my life not working.”
“…It might be scary.”
“…I may not know who I am anymore.”
“…It may not be safe to let it go.”
“…I won’t know how to act as a functional, non-victim person.”
“…I won’t get the attention or sympathy I get now.”
If someone has been trying to lose weight for a long time, for instance, and hasn’t been successful, they are almost certainly reversed on it. Consciously they want to lose weight, but their big, stubborn subconscious may be saying “Wait a minute here. If I lose weight my clothes won’t fit and I’ll be deprived of the foods I love. And what if I lose that 40 pounds and I still don’t get that promotion I need, the guy I’m lusting after or the friends I want? Maybe if I lose that weight I’ll be so attractive to men that I’ll be abused or harassed again. Or what if my chubby friends abandon me and what if I get skinny but am still not pretty? Geez, losing weight is just not worth it, so I’ll just stay fat.”Once again, remember, this is the subconscious mind wielding control over what we consciously want.
Compare On subconscious manifestation blocks: Secondary Gain: Keeping Your Reality From Manifesting.
As long as the subconscious is unwilling to let the problem go (that’s a Reversal) it’s very hard to resolve an issue, with or without EFT. When I hear someone say “I’ve had this ________ for years and have tried everything” the word Reversal comes to mind immediately. Personally, I like to use muscle testing to demonstrate this phenomenon. I have the client make a positive statement such as “I really want to let go of this anger at dad.” When I muscle test them while they say that their arm will test weak. They protest, of course, saying, “But I really DO want to get over it!” And they do at the conscious level.
We then do the Reversal correction or neutralization, then test them again, and they’re strong (see Resolving SBS below). This amazes people almost as much as EFT. It physically demonstrates an otherwise hard-to-grasp notion. People are often skeptical of this concept until we neutralize the Reversal, perform EFT tapping and they see the once stubborn issue miraculously disappear.
RESOLVING SBS
The good news is it’s very easy to fix an SBS reversal–so easy that people find it hard to believe. Here’s how it’s done: Simply tap on the karate chop point (KC= base of little finger against base of the other little finger) using a reversal phrase such as “Even though….”
“…I don’t really want to get over this depression (trauma, chronic pain, etc.) I deeply and completely accept myself.”
“…It may not be safe to get over my issues…. (use your actual problem, not the word ‘issue’)…”
“…I may not deserve to get over this issue…”
“…I won’t know how to act if I get well…”
“…I won’t have an excuse for my life being messed up…”
“…I don’t want to forgive the people that ruined my life…”
“…I don’t want to be ‘normal’…”
“…I’m afraid this won’t work and I’ll never be well…”
“…For whatever reason, I don’t want to overcome this problem…”
I almost always use at least the first and last of these choices which usually catches everything in between. “Not deserving” to get over something is also a biggie, so try it if it fits, along with any of the others. They’re free and they can’t hurt. You’ll know the Reversal neutralization worked when you start doing EFT tapping again and begin getting results. Reversals can be a huge stumbling block, but they are so easily remedied that we needn’t let them stand in the way.
Remember, fixing a Reversal does not fix the issue. It only gets rid of the impediment to fixing the issue. You still need to do EFT tapping as normal after fixing a Reversal–i.e., set-up and tapping sequences.
As I stated in the beginning, Reversals are only onestumbling block to a successful Emotional Freedom Technique treatment, but it is often the one that causes people to say, “I tried EFT, but it just didn’t work for me”. I hate it when that happens.

Your inner healing process will take you places in your mind you didn’t even know existed. I know because I have to constantly address resistance of some kind when I tap. The truth is hard to deal with sometimes and our mind just protects us from the pain by sheltering it from us. Then, how can you deal with something you can’t confront? This is where I think EFT tapping is such a powerful technique. You can address resistance directly or indirectly. And that is why EFT tapping is one of my favorite and most powerful tools to release negative emotions, beliefs, and resistance.

Once in a while I’ll come across a person who would rather stay stuck than change their life that is not working. It’s a sad choice, but too often true.
One particular client, “Ken”, comes to mind who had a strange sexual fetish that he really didn’t want to let go of. He finally admitted he was only seeing me at his wife’s insistence and that he didn’t want to change at all. PERIOD. He liked his fetish and wasn’t about to give it up. Fine with me. So I sent him home to deal with his wife.
Another client, “Jerry”, had Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). He had a severe phobia of germs and therefore washed his hands hundreds of times a day. He also showered and washed his hair several times a day. Furthermore he made his family follow the same procedures in order for them to remain “clean and acceptable”. If they didn’t bathe every time they entered the house he considered them “filthy and disgusting”.
The rest of the family very much wanted Jerry to get help and eliminate his compulsions. But when Jerry first started talking to me he made it clear that he actually liked the attention and feeling special and didn’t want to get over his OCD. When I asked if he’d like to at least get over his fear of germs he replied “No, no! Being afraid of germs keeps me safe and alive, so I don’t want to let that fear go.”
This wasn’t a Reversal, this was a choice. He didn’t want to change and admitted he didn’t even want to want to change. I don’t feel it’s my responsibility to try to talk someone into changing. I may offer my opinion and make suggestions. However, I feel I have an obligation to respect someone’s right to choose for themselves unless it involves harming themselves or others.
One of my very first phone clients was “Betty” who had been a victim so long it had become a part of her identity. She had experienced a lot of sadness in her life; she had survived breast cancer and a double mastectomy, had a brother who was brutally murdered, her parents were holocaust survivors, her husband left her for a younger woman, her son lost a leg in a car accident, she was fired from her job, etc. It seemed her life was an endless tragedy and understandably her attitude was extremely negative.
She actually whined when she talked and answered most questions with a negative response such as “OK I’ll try, but it won’t work–nothing ever does.” In our tapping we just weren’t getting anywhere. I’d already tried finding the core issues, being specific, etc. I asked her “Betty, do you really want to feel better and have your life work?” She calmly said “I’ve been this way so long I don’t think I’d know how to act if things were going right for me.”
Silly me, I was a newbie and remained undaunted, trying hard anyway. I continued with other approaches like “Tell me how your life would be different if your life was working and things were really clicking.” She said “I can’t even imagine that, and even if things were going my way, I’d just f— it up again anyway. I always do.” I eventually asked her “Do you want me to continue to try to help you?”To which she said, “No, not really. I have all I need.” When I asked her what that was she said “Sympathy and attention of friends who feel sorry for me and want to help me”. She had been telling me that in different ways for an hour. Finally, I got that she really meant it. So I wished her well and sent her on her way.
The point is that you can’t help someone if they really don’t want to be helped. This is different than people who are Reversed or skeptical about Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT. You don’t have to believe in or understand Emotional Freedom Technique for it to work. Some of the biggest fans of EFT tapping technique now were skeptics at first (like me). As long as someone wants to change, EFT tapping can work for them. If they’re not motivated they will not cooperate. Accordingly, you will have an uphill battle on your hands and you are not likely to get very far.
Honestly, it is heart breaking to see friends and family suffering needlessly, but it is not our responsibility in most cases to intervene. Besides, you can’t help anyone especially if they don’t want the help and they are closed to trying any new healing techniques in the first place. Believe me I have tried to convince people to at least try this EFT tapping technique.
For example, I know of someone who repeatedly creates drama in her life. She often sulks about how her life “sucks” and she balked at the idea of using EFT tapping. Out of frustration, I told her one day that it is going to take her to hit rock bottom before she does anything about it. She smiled and replied, “Well, I guess I haven’t hit rock bottom yet.” I was surprised by her response but she was absolutely right. She is not motivated to do anything to change her emotional and physical state even though she complains about it.
